Danny come back!

Danny come back!

(Just getting ready – fights starts at 9 PM ET)
Because Erik Morales is struggling with his weight and is not the same fighter he was before, the odds are now tipped in Manny Pacquiao’s favor, and this is his to lose. Although I just read that the Pacquiao camp allowed Morales to weigh in at 132 lbs. instead of 130 — could this be a mistake? At any rate, it won’t be a surprise if Pacquiao wins, and it will be a huge upset if he loses. Takes a bit away from the underdog excitement from the last match, but still, we want Pac Man to win.
Uneducated Prediction: Pacquiao will KO Morales in the 7th Round
Ay naku, bakit ngayon ko lang nahanap ‘to.
Mau – Diamonds are Forever from James Bond and I’m Telling You from Dreamgirls
(Nakaka-asar. Eto na naman ‘yung song choice because the movie is coming up. And then die-hard fans will start comparing her to Jennifer Hudson.)
Pow – So Far So Good and I’d Give My Life For You from Ms. Saigon
Gian – Sana Ikaw na Nga and Grease-lightning from Grease
Miguel – Growing Up from Bagets and Can You Feel the Love Tonight from Lion King
(He gets the song selections from hell. Hahaha. Although Growing Up is a novetly, it is not a singing competition song — will he dance like Gary V? Also, according to Dean, kailangan umiyak ka at lahat in order to make Can You Feel the Love Tonight work — true! Hindi na namin kinakanta ito sa videoke because it’s such a mood killer.)
Jan – Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang and Corner of the Sky from Pippin
ABS-CBN Profit Falls (INQ7 / Xinhua Financial News Service)
ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp.’s third-quarter net profit declined by eight percent to P178.9 million from P194.5 million a year before, the company said.
ABS-CBN said that despite its lower earnings in the third quarter, its net profit for the first nine months of the year had grown by 70 percent to P694 million from P409 million a year before, reflecting the continuing improvement in its core business.
The company’s third-quarter revenue fell to P4.5 billion from P4.92 billion because it earned less from selling air time, services, licenses and goods.
GMA Network 9-month profit down 11% (INQ7 / Xinhua Financial News Service)
GMA Network Inc. said its net profit for the nine months to September fell 11 percent from a year earlier to 1.55 billion due to higher operating expenses.
GMA, the main rival of publicly listed ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., reported consolidated gross revenue of P8.09 billion for the nine-month period, up from the previous year’s P7.4 billion, boosted by steady airtime sales from its flagship television station Channel 7 and additional subscription revenue from its international operations.
GMA said it maintained its lead in TV ratings as of September amid an industry-wide decline in advertising spending.
GMA Network said January-September gross revenues were P8.09 billion, up 10 percent from P7.4 billion in the same period in 2005, with its Channel 7 station enjoying steady airtime sales and its Pinoy TV international operations contributing additional subscription revenues. Gross revenues from its international operations were about P200 million.
Hmmm, let’s see: 1.5 billion divided by 3 equals P500 million per quarter. So if P178.9 million ang profit ng ABS-CBN for the 3rd Qtr, lamang pa rin ang GMA by P321.1 million even with a percentage decline. Yikes.
Actually, ang profit ng ABS-CBN for the first nine months was P694 million while GMA’s profit was P1.55 billion. Wow. More than double!
I’m very shocked that ABS-CBN cannot translate their being #1 in the national ratings into profit. Ang yabang pa naman nila! Either they are severely incompetent — if you are #1 you should have the most profit diba? — or it just proves the obvious: Mega Manila is the biggest and most profitable TV market in the Philippines. And since GMA is #1 in Mega Manila, they have managed to earn more than double the profit of ABS-CBN — who has to content themselves with smaller profits in the Visayas and Mindanao.
Madugo pala ang laban, grabe. I’ve read so many posts in the forums about ABS-CBN being this and that — such as they charge more for their ads compared to GMA — but these numbers are an eye-opener.
Update: I think that ABS-CBN’s cost-cutting activities is a good thing for them. However, their gross revenues actually shrank by P400 million in the 3rd Qtr.
Fugitive Honasan captured (INQ7)
Former senator Gregorio ?Gringo? Honasan, who has been in hiding after he was accused for allegedly planning a failed coup plot on Feb. 24 against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, has been captured in a posh subdivision in Quezon City early Wednesday, police sources said.
Ken Dingle out. I’m shocked! Di kaya the show is finally manipulating the results? I smell something fishy. The fact that he’s been around so long, when he should never have made it to the finals, means that his voting block is solid from the very beginning. Why falter now?

This was a bit of a shocker, since JC de Vera was just on Eat Bulaga the other day (as a girl), and a mainstay on SOP. Is he moving to ABS-CBN? Paano na ang Captain Barbell? Is his character dead there already? Doesn’t he have a new series with GMA? Is he being shopped around by his manager? Wasn’t he an exclusive GMA talent or a freelancer? Ano kaya ang nangyayari behind the scenes ngayon? Pinaglitan kaya siya? Will he get fired? (Ang daming tanong, ha.)
Although admittedly, it was great to see JC de Vera and Gerald Anderson dancing together. Wala bang ka-love-team si JC? Parang that’s what he needs now.
Go JC! Go Gerald!

Jan Nieto has been gaining ground week after week over Miguel Mendoza on the text votes (and obviously not necessarily on performance). He just surpassed Miguel.
It now looks like Jan Nieto will be the first Philippine Idol.
Congratulations Chennylyn!
