Network War: GMA 7 posts 11-month profit of P2.28B

GMA 7 posts 11-month profit of P2.28B (Inquirer)

GMA NETWORK INC. posted a net income of P2.28 billion in the first 11 months of 2007, 20-percent higher than the same period in 2006, the company said in a statement.

Year-to-date gross revenues went up 8 percent to P10.83 billion while production costs increased slightly by 4 percent to P3.44 billion.

For November, revenues breached the P1-billion mark, bringing net income for the month higher by 6 percent to P220 million.

ABS-CBN is projected to have a profit of P1.4 B for 2007. This is an improvement from 2006. But again, it defies logic: If ABS-CBN is #1 Nationwide, how come GMA-7 is earning almost double? Are the ABS-CBN financial executives idiots? That they cannot leverage their “#1 Nationwide” rating into profits? Also, what part of that P1.4 B comes from subscriptions of The Filipino Channel? (Didn’t we say this last year? LOL)

Aljur Abrenica — Bubble Gang

Aljur Abrenica

Aljur Abrenica was a guest on Bubble Gang.

I know, Aljur is really not a good actor — drama or comedy (LOL), but this sketch was funny. I think that maybe Aljur is trying too hard and he just needs to relax and let go. Hopefully as he matures he will learn what to do.

Network War: ABS-CBN Violated AGB Contract

QC court junks ABS-CBN case vs AGB Nielsen (Inquirer)

The Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) on Monday dismissed a P63-million civil complaint by television giant ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. against global television ratings firm AGB Nielsen Media Research (AGB) over alleged ratings manipulation.

AGB said in a statement Monday that the order was penned by Quezon City RTC Judge Charito B. Gonzales of Branch 80, who cited ABS-CBN?s failure to comply with its service contract with AGB.

Under the contract, which was upheld by the court, AGB said it had at least one month to investigate and act on issues raised by ABS-CBN on matters affecting AGB?s data quality and validity.

?AGB Nielsen is grateful to Judge Gonzales for upholding the pertinent provision on our contract with ABS-CBN that seeks to continue to ensure the integrity of our data and the survey processes,? AGB general manager Maya Reforma said in a statement Monday.

I linked to the ABS-CBN news story that failed to mention that ABS-CBN violated the AGB contract regarding ratings investigations — and was the basis for the judge’s decision. ABS-CBN news only said that the lawsuit was “premature”. Buti na lang hindi BIASED ang Inquirer. ABS-CBN news just lost credibility with me all of a sudden. Akala ko objective sila. I’m so naive.
