Panday – It’s Hopeless

I know it’s a bit late to say it, but I’m now declaring Panday DOA. Encantadia uses special effects because they are needed for storytelling. Panday on the other hand use effects for special effects sake. Another sorry example of futility from the ABS-CBN art department: the dead and much-hyped bakunawa, or whatever it was — ano yan? World-class my ass. Ang yayabang ninyo di sa blog ko, yan lang ba ang kaya ninyo? I wouldn’t be criticizing if it wasn’t so mediocre. But again, it could all have been forgiven, if the overall storytelling itself was sound — but it is not.

Panday

This show is getting worse every episode… at hindi pa bumabalik si Ipe! I’ve also noticed that they are constantly repeating old scenes. Wala na ba silang material?

During this episode, Jericho was shirtless half the time. But it’s still not enough to save this show.

Panday – The Return of Ipe

Jericho Rosales

Malapit na! I’m so terrified. His hand just came out of the painting after Jericho offered the sword — for no apparent reason but to entice Ipe to come out from the other world via a painting of himself to pick it up. Heh. In a way I’m happy in a perverse way since I have something to bitch about for a few days. We can have an “Ipe Gut Watch.”

Regine Watch – Pinoy Pop Superstar

Regine lost her voice somehow, so she had Jaya (yes, I’m still boycotting her) — introduced as the Songbird’s black queen of soul (?) — as her co-host. Again, what’s up with the high-waist look? This dress is somewhat forgivable since it’s not as bad as the previous weeks, but it’s still bad. I also couldn’t get over how Regine just wanted to show off her leg through the slit. Nice one Regine.

Her second outfit.

Some dude won singing “Go the Distance” and then I thought of Danny Laureano. Babalik pa kaya siya? Does anyone know? I’m feeling sad all of a sudden.

Panday – Tuning Out

Jericho Rosales - Panday
I don’t know. This show is so stupid. I’m running out of patience.

Akala ko ba the single, strongest motivation of Jericho/Tristan/Panday is to SAVE HIS WIFE. Ito ang dahilan kung bakit sinugod nila ang bundok ni Lizardo dahil ang kulit at atat na atat na si Tristan na pakawalan ang asawa niya. So how come, when Tristan gets into the cave, he immediately goes to Lizardo’s hologram, instead of trying to free his wife who is SCREAMING for him to save her. To top it off, instead of running to go after her (she is now being dragged by the bad guys to another location), Tristan STOPS! And gets emotional over the death of Diego. Habulin mo ang asawa mo, tange! Diba mabilis ka tumakbo? Sumuko ka na kaagad. Also, if it was impossible for Tristan to run after his wife, the director should have shown us why not: limipad ba sila. etc. etc. Tristan will just not stop and give up, and certainly not because of a dead Diego. The storytelling skills of this ABS-CBN production team is sorely lacking, and so is their logic.

As I’ve said before, it seems they are busy filming fight scenes that are meaningless and nonsense to whatever story they are trying to tell. It is painfully apparent that they really don’t have a story at all, or else lapses like this will not happen.

ABS-CBN Concedes to GMA

From Malaya:

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp, the country?s largest network, is conceding its defeat in this year?s ratings war, saying there is too little time, barely two months to wrest the lead from GMA Network Inc.

Randolph Estrallado, chief financial officer of ABS-CBN, said “it?s about time to lower expectations. Airtime revenues for the rest of the year will be low. I?m not too optimistic about growth in terms of airtime revenues.

ABS-CBN?s audience share for the third quarter was 35 percent, a slight improvement from 34 percent from the previous quarter. Its rival has 47 percent, from 46 percent from the previous quarter, boosted by fantasy series Darna and Encantadia.

Among the top ten prime time programs, only Pinoy Big Brother made it with the rest aired by GMA.

Wow. What an eye-opener. The fact that profits are being generated mostly from TFC subscribers in North America (kami! ako!) means that ABS-CBN has completely lost in the Philippines. It’s kinda ironic that for DirecTV subscribers, you can only get GMA Pinoy TV as an “add-on” to ABS-CBN’s TFC. I wonder how many subscribers are getting TFC because they want GMA Pinoy TV.

Generally, naka-telebabad ako sa GMA Pinoy TV most of the time, then just checking what’s going on at TFC every once in a while. Aside from the fact that most of the shows I like are on GMA, I hate lingering on TFC because every commercial break, they are hard-selling phone cards and lawyer services — nakakarindi. GMA meanwhile shows music videos (from GMA records of course) and this wonderful program called SideTrip by Howie Severino which takes you an a hands-on trip to unexplored places in the Philippines.
